QuillBot: price, catch and who it suits

Paraphrasing, grammar, summarising and plagiarism checking in one box of writing utilities.

The Weekly 2% Edge looks for small, repeatable gains in how a business runs. This page summarises our research on QuillBot, read from the vendor’s own pages and from what other buyers report. It is not a hands-on test.

What it costs

Free $0; Premium $19.95 a month, or $8.33 a month billed annually ($99.95 a year). Read on QuillBot’s own pricing page on 2026-09-26; check the live page before you buy.

The free tier is deliberately narrow: 125 words per paraphrase and two of the modes. The honest framing is that this is a box of writing utilities -- paraphraser, grammar, plagiarism, AI detection -- rather than somewhere you actually write. General AI chat tools now overlap much of it. And treat the free AI detector as weak: in our test of 1 October 2026 it rated four plainly written machine texts 100% human and only caught a paragraph full of stock chatbot phrases.

Who it suits

Students, non-native writers and anyone who wants quick paraphrasing, grammar and summarizing help.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you already use a general AI assistant that paraphrases and edits — QuillBot may be redundant.

Getting started

Run the free tier against the hardest thing you have, not the easiest. The cap is 125 words per paraphrase and two modes, so pick one dense paragraph -- jargon, a long sentence, something you would genuinely struggle to rewrite -- and see whether the output is better than your own second draft. That is the whole test.
